This agency is also responsible for storm spotting, tornado alerting, flood watches and road closing. We are also responsible for making sure that any hazardous material spill within the City is properly cleaned up.
Our office has one full time employee working in the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) located at the 911 Center. The rest of the staff is made up of volunteers, Amateur Radio Operators, Etc... which makes up the "Weather 1 Storm Team". Our spotters are formally trained by the National Weather Service (NWS) annually. These people utilize their own vehicle, and give of their time freely. Placing themselves in extremely dangerous situations, in order to assist the EOC staff in providing our citizens with the most timely and accurate severe weather information possible. They are our number one resource during hazardous weather. "Without these people, on the ground, in harms way, providing this information, we could not properly accomplish our mission."
The SoonerSafe - Safe Room RebateProgram was developed in 2011 by the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management to provide a rebate for purchase and installation of safe rooms for Oklahoma homeowners.
Oklahoma is providing this safe room rebate program through the FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program. Therefore OEM must comply with all federal grant regulations for each rebate recipient, to include eligibility of properties, required documentation, etc.
